Good Food Month is once again fixing to take over Sydney with a ridiculous amount of exclusive food and drink focused events. In addition to the always jam-packed Night Noodle Markets, the program each year gives the best chefs from Sydney and beyond a chance to collaborate, showcase, and experiment to feed the masses (or lucky ticket-holders).
Lovers of Italian food should most definitely check out “An Italian affair with Balla & LuMi Bar & Dining”, taking place at Balla on 16th October. These two neighbours have long been known as two of the city’s best Italian restaurants, and with LuMi’s award-winning Federico Zanellato set to join Balla’s kitchen for a special collaboration with Gabriele Taddeucci we’re very that this will go down as one of the month’s highlights.
For more info on the one-off, four-course dinner we asked Taddeucci what guests can expect.
How did the concept behind your event form?
I have known Federico since when he started his journey at Ormeggio. I’ve always liked his style and his way of playing with Italian food. Over the years we became friends and especially before opening LuMi, we started to see each other more often. At that time, he was working night and day at the restaurant and he was coming to Balla for lunch or dinner quite regularly. As soon as he opened the doors to his restaurant, it reversed and I became a regular at LuMi. When I spoke to Federico about the event concept, he didn’t hesitate a moment and he was keen to collaborate straight away. We are so excited to be in the kitchen together and to share our ideas and experiences.
Why should people attend and what can they expect?
Our restaurants have different concepts and for once, we’ll both explore a different way to combine our styles. People should expect a dining experience where me and Federico will create a journey through some our most beloved Italian dishes, returning to our childhood and memories.
There are plenty of different events on as part of this year’s Good Food Month. Aside from your event, what are some of your top picks?
Absolutely right, the events this year are so diverse and interesting. Without a doubt, the “Fleet and The Bridge Room Editors Dinner” was a stand-out to me – it’s a great pair of talented chef and for Sydneysiders, it’s an unique chance to try Josh’s food. I dined at Fleet earlier this year and I had a fantastic experience. The food was very well executed, the service outstanding and the wine selection simply perfect. It was our best night in Byron! And, what can I say about The Bridge Room? Ross and his food don’t need any explanation, you go there and you know that you’ll have a good time. And then of course, I also wouldn’t miss my friends Giovanni Pilu and Alessandro Pavoni’s one-off dinner events at their restaurants.
How can people make the most of their Good Food Month this year?
Take this opportunity to try some of the best food that Australia can offer. If you want to celebrate your birthday, or take your partner out, or meet up with a group of friends you haven’t seen in a long time, I wouldn’t hesitate to start planning it now.
