Where to spend Mother’s Day 2016 in Sydney

In just over two weeks, on Sunday 8th May, Mother’s Day will be coming around to amplify the love and appreciation we all have for that leading lady, often resulting in extravagant long lunches or dinners at some of the best restaurants in town.

As pretty much every restaurant in Sydney is offering up a menu for the special occasion, we thought it best to sift through and pull out seven of our favourites, from necessary High Tea experiences 31 floors above the city and seafood buffets overlooking the harbour, to set menus marrying dumplings with chocolate.

InterContinental Sydney (Circular Quay)

intercontinentalsydney

InterContinental Sydney is truly going all out for Mother’s Day this year, transforming several of their spaces to provide a selection that includes three High Tea experiences, a pop-up High Coffee concept and a luxury seafood buffet. For all information and bookings on the below events head to the hotel’s official website HERE.

interconclub

  • Club InterContinental

Should you choose Club InterContinental’s High Tea option you’ll be taking your mum 31 floors above Sydney for a view that’s as delicious as the three-tiered High Tea stand that’s included; featuring InterContinental signatures, and a glass of bubbly (with an option to upgrade with endless sparkling or Champagne packages) to indulge with before each mum is gifted with a special boxed gift and a Polaroid keepsake. There are two sittings available – 12pm-2pm and 2:30pm-4:30pm – and prices are $110 per adult, $65 per child, $15 for an endless sparkling upgrade, and $25 for an endless Champagne upgrade. The Club is usually reserved for members only, so you’ll also be getting the warmth of exclusivity!

  • The Harbour Room

On the same floor as Club InterContinental, the gorgeous Harbour Room will also be the sight of an elegant High Tea offering, complementing those sweeping Harbour views with live duet violinists to soundtrack the same offering as above (three-tiered High Tea stand, glass of bubbly, special boxed gift, and a Polaroid keepsake). Sittings are available for 12:30pm-2:30pm and 3pm-5pm, with prices set at $99 per adult, and $65 per child, with Champagne package upgrades also available.

  • The Cortile

Take mum through those sandstone arches of the 1851 Treasury Building and into The Cortile, the sight of one of the most popular and sought after High Tea experiences in Sydney. The art-deco ambiance will be an appropriate scene for a specially-curated Mother’s Day High Tea buffet with exclusive offers from renowned tea connoisseurs Ronnefeldt, who have provided special tea-infused cocktails for the day alongside a tea library. Featuring alongside the selection of decadent pastries, classic scones, savouries, and a complimnetary glass of sparkling on arrival, will be a themed dessert buffet, which, if The Cortile’s reputation is anything to go by, will be absolutely essential for Mother’s Day.

Sittings for The Cortile’s High Tea Buffet are scheduled for 1pm-3pm and 3:30pm-5:30pm, with prices set at $95 per adult, and $59 per child. Package upgrades are available.

  • Pop-Up High Coffee

Inside the InterContinental Sydney Gallery will be a pop-up high coffee experience should you and your family lean away from tea, offering up three-tiered stands designed towards espresso-inspired food, with coffee-infused desserts and hand-made pastries, along with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine to sip to a soundtrack provided by a live duet pianist and guitarist. All mums will take home a special boxed gift and Polaroid keepsake. Sittings are available for 12:30pm-2:30pm and 3pm-5pm, with prices set at $99 per adult and $65 per child. Champagne package upgrades will also be available.

  • Seafood Buffet at Cafe Opera

The hotel’s Cafe Opera will be presenting a deluxe lunch buffet with an extended selection of premium market-fresh produce like lobster, blue swimmer crab, and Balmain bugs along with live cooking stations and a dramatic dessert buffet so you can mix-and-match with a beverage package that gives each guest a complimentary glass of Bimbagden sparkling NV Semillon on arrival.

From 5:30pm, the space will take on a different tone with the same buffet but a different set-up, with succulent oysters, market seafood, and both hot and cold serving stations, along with both standard and premium beverage packages available.

Sittings for the lunch session are 12pm-2pm and 2:30pm-4:30pm, with prices at $119 per adult, $79 per young adult (13-18 years), and $59 for children under 12 years.

Dinner sittings are 5:30pm-7:30pm and 8pm-10pm, with prices being $79 per adult and $40 per child.
