Top five New Years Day parties in Sydney for 2016

It’s New Years Eve in Sydney, of course you’re supposed to kick on. Summer in the city often means that an outdoor party – whatever the size – is the only way to spend the first day of the year, and 2016 will be no exception when it comes to some of biggest events of the month. Here are a few parties and events you should get across if you want to do a Sydney New Years Day justice. What hangover?

Field Day (CBD)

This one is a no-brainer. Fuzzy’s Field Day is one of the longest surviving contemporary music festivals in Sydney, and with good reason. There’s nothing like celebrating the first day of the new year running around The Domain to check some of the world’s best live electronica, hip hop, and indie rock acts give it their all to kick off your 2016. It’s consistently one of the better ‘dance’ festivals around – let alone, one of the only ones still around – with a diversity that makes it worth putting up with all those self-unaware bros.

The line up for Field Day 2016 is: Disclosure (live), Flight Facilities, The Wombats, Pusha T, RL Grime, Golden Features, Halsey, Skepta, Boys Noize, Seth Troxler, Django Django, Ta-Ku (live), Zeds Dead, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (dj set), San Cisco, Allday, Daniel Avery, SAFIA, Young Fathers, Com Truise, The Avener, Snakehips, Tuka, Luke Million, Sam Feldt, JOY, Ngaiire, Motorik.

Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel (Watsons Bay)

World renowned venue The Surf Lodge are coming all the way from that often mythological hub of luxe, The Hamptons in New York, hosting a pop-up party at Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel. Those heading along should expect a whole heap of live music, headlined by Michigan indie-pop artist BØRNS, with some very reliable assist from Set Mo, Deutsch Duke, Motorik Vibe Council, Oli Benz, and Dan Single.

Everyone from Solange to The Flaming Lips have flocked to an event at The Surf Lodge, so it’d be interesting to see what kind of intimate beach event seasoned party starters have planned by Watsons Bay.
