Best things to do in Sydney this weekend (26th-28th Feb)

This is the last weekend of summer Sydney and while the weather keeps turning the heat up it’s best to go get outdoors and explore all the awesome events on across the city over the next three days. An absolute must is the Sydney Cellar Door in Hyde Park, but there’s also a big festival happening in Kings Cross, the highly anticipated Bacon Brewfest, and more.

Sydney Cellar Door (Fri, Sat, Sun)

70 new, established, and up-and-coming NSW wineries will be setting up stalls in Hyde Park from Friday to Sunday for the annual Sydney Cellar Door. Some of the best food outlets around the state have also come on board, like Sydney staples Porteno and Bloodwood, and there’ll even be a cheese bar which you can take your favourite glass of wine to and get the best pairing possible with complimentary cheese. Kings Cross Festival (Sat, Sun)

The main part of this annual Kings Cross Festival this year will be a big laneway party on the Saturday night, with pop up bars from the likes of Waterman’s Lobster Co. and The Roosevelt, offering up specials and exclusive alongisde a huge range of local and neighbouring businesses to celebrate the strong communal spirit that won’t ever let #CasinoMike dampen the vibrancy of “The Cross”. Sunday will be a more family-focused day with workshops, tours, and even a mobile petting zoo. For more information head HERE.

Bacon Brewfest (Sat)

Newtown’s Cuckoo Callay are at it again with their now annual festival of the pig, kicking off their 12 week bacon-centric menu with an elaborate mini festival at Sydney’s Central Park that mixes bacon with beer and calls on some of the city’s best for help. Located a aMBUSH Gallery on Saturday, the Bacon Brewfest will feature Adriano Zumbo, Black Star Pastry, N2 Extreme Gelato, Bovine & Swine, Anna Polyviou, Grumpy Donuts, Stinking Bishops, Textbook Boulangerie-Patisserie, and more. There will also be a bunch of merchandise available, like…bacon shampoo, bacon mints, and bacon toothpaste, along with a bacon-eating competition and bacon & beer workshops. Beer will also see a nice presence from the likes of 4 Pines, Feral, and Ramblin’ Rascal Tavern, who will all be on hand at the one-day-only event. For more information head HERE.

Pepa Saya’s Last Supper Pop-Up

Famed artisanal butter brand Pepa Saya have decided to get in early for Easter and open up a pop-up in Alexandria’s excellent Bitton. The suppliers of cultured butter to just about every top restaurant around Australia will be offering a number of exclusive Pepe Saya products such as smoked butter and seaweed butter, as well as all the favourites like the aforementioned Pepe’s creme fraiche, mascarpone, buttermilk, ghee, salted and unsalted butter, butter keepers, and Pepe Saya butter knives. Alongside these will be some non-butter products like Zokoko chocolate bars, Olsson’s Salts, Brasserie Bread’s Single Origin loaves and handcrafted hot cross buns, gourmet jams, sauces, egganic eggs, milk, yoghurts, and desserts by Dessertmakers Dairy Desserts. Carriageworks Farmers Market (Sat)

From 8am to 1pm you can head on down to one of the city’s most unique spaces to get up close and personal with farmers and producers from all over NSW like Bourke Street Bakery, Billy Kwong (make sure you get those fluffy pork buns with chilli!) and Sonoma. It’s a delicious way to start your Saturday, plus we’d take any excuse to spend a few hours in Carriageworks.

Guilty Pleasures (Friday)

As part of the current March Into Merivale festival staged at Merivale venues across Sydney, a new nightlife concept will be coming to ivy and Pailings. Straight from the UK, the party dubbed “Guilty Pleasures” will be on every Friday, recreating the big, bold, and brazen activities of the renowned overseas party with confesstional booths, crowd-karaoke, dancers, a Chandon Unplanned house band, and more. The party’s founder, Sean Rowley, will be there as part of the DJ lineup to fill the space with disco, pop, R&B, and other assorted bangers to go with the theatrical atmosphere which has been designed around depravity and 100% shame-free fun.
