Review: 360 Dining’s Wine Club – CBD (Sydney)

Could these be the best value wine dinners in Sydney? One would sure be hard-pressed finding one that combines the atmosphere and value like 360 Bar & Dining do with their “360 Wine Club” events. There are plenty of wine dinner series across the city but not many similarly priced events have quite the scope or altitude as this one, perched 305m above the streets of Sydney on 360 Dining’s private floor.

Catch the elevator up a few floors above 360 Dining’s restaurant and walk out to large communal tables set up with that stunning view as the backdrop; wine glasses, plates, and cutlery set for a comprehensive and intimate evening with good food, good wine, and some of Australia’s best producers. Once or twice a month 360 Wine Club host these dinners, some events timed around global celebrations, tasking Head Chef Elton Inglis to channel all his creativity (and there’s a lot of it, the man has trained with the likes of Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay) into a themed candelit degustation with each dish paired with wines from the event’s showcasing producer. For previous months the concept has seen wine dinners nod to Bastille Day and Vivid Sydney, and most recently Majella Wines, the Lynn family’s iconic Coonawarra winery which are this year celebrate their 25th anniversary.

Inglis put together five courses which would pair with some classic as well as new releases from Majella, all of which were selected by the restaurant’s awarded sommelier Andres Aragon. Majella’s Peter Lynn was also present to discuss each glass as they were presented, introducing drops like the pillow soft 2008 Majella Shiraz and a young, fresh 2016 Majella Riesling. Entertaining host Troy Parry tied it all together with his energetic emceeing, but the night’s focus remained on Lynn and Inglis, pairing fine food and great wine with the third dimension being that million dollar view.

Looking down over Sydney’s skyline with a big red in hand and imaginative dishes using the likes of crab and quail is exactly what one should expect to receive here. To top it off, each guest leaves with a bottle of wine irrespective of whether or not they fill out the necessary order form, which allows everyone to purchase bottles of most of the wines of the menu (some for the Majella dinner weren’t even released yet) at exclusively low prices.

Five wines, five courses, and a bottle to take home. Throw in a lucky door prize and you’ve got yourself some excellent value for a dinner that was set at $109pp. Invites to the dinners are reserved for members who sign-up to the 360 Wine Club for free, which you can do so HERE.
