To cap off yet another busy Bar Week, the industry came together last night at the 16th annual Bartender Magazine Australian Bar Awards to celebrate the past 12 months of outstanding bars across Australia. Always an authoritative lens through which to examine the massive scale of quality bars across the country, the awards ceremony celebrated those who have performed extraordinarily across a large number of categories, providing a comprehensive snapshot of where the industry is at right now, and which drinking dens have been kicking all the right goals.... Earlier this year Arnott’s did something very, very bad and ill-advised, inexplicably announcing that they’ll be taking the “if it ain’t broke, break it” approach by changing the recipe for their Shapes range. This unsurprisingly led to frustration and outrage, being that one of the country’s most loved snacks had been completely flipped upside down with new seasoning, seemingly to improve the range’s health rating (which probably works by making you not wanting to eat them at all). Negative feedback forced the brand to backflip on a few flavours eventually – particularly the much-loved BBQ – but the majority of Shapes flavours stuck to the new recipe.... Sometimes dreams become a reality. Streets Ice Cream have a good history of actually listening to their consumers and actually paying attention to creative requests and unique ideas. One such idea is to create the love child of the brand’s beloved Golden Gaytime and Cornetto, appropriately named the Golden Gaynetto. It was a piece of ice cream fan fiction that seemed like a distant fantasy, coming from ardent Sydney-based dessert fan and non-cape-wearing hero Jesse James McElroy, who famously convinced Streets to introduce 1.25L tubs of Golden Gaytime, which they did just over a year ago.... From a modest start to what is now a heavily anticipated national program, the Garage Sale Trail returns to Australia each October to encourage local communities to engage with and host good ol’ fashioned garage sales, and we aren’t just talking dusty old books and fur coats. On October 22nd, registered garage sales across the country will form one large, synchronised treasure hunt with people selling off their wares – big or small – or offering up some unconventional goods, like adoptable kittens, or multi-million dollar yachts (someone has legit registered the huge yacht that was used in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby for sale this year).... Those unmistakable ripples of Streets’ fluffy Viennetta ice cream have been burned back into the hearts and minds of Aussies everywhere since an elusive image of a “Viennetta on a stick” product went viral a few days ago. It only to lead to sighs of disappointment when it was revealed that the holy grail of dessert products was not available in the country. However, as news.com.au report, that’s all set to change because Streets Ice Cream have confirmed that the bucketloads of demand that followed the image have forced them to officially launch Viennetta on a Stick in Australia....
